And I kept silent

Because I was not Jewish.

 

Then they came for the Communists

And I kept silent

Because I was not a Communist.

 

Then they came for the trade unionists

And I kept silent

Because I was not a trade unionist.

 

When they came for me

No one was left

Who could speak for me.
